Heading Down Home Stretch, Gauchos Welcome UC Riverside for Crucial 3-Game Set

UC Santa Barbara (31-19, 10-8) takes on the UC Riverside Highlanders (18-27, 12-6) for the first time in 2008. Last year, the Highlanders took two of three from the Gauchos, winning the first game 9-0, and the finale 9-8. UCSB won the second game of the series, 5-4. Wright and Galicinao Earn Big West Top Honors, Six Others Named to All-Conference Teams

Junior outfielder Tiffany Wright was named the Big West Conference's Player of the Year and first year head coach Brie Galicinao earned Big West Co-Coach of the Year honors it was announced Tuesday by the conference. Along with Wright, senior Tisha Duran and junior Christine Ramos also garnered First Team All-Big West accolades while seniors Ericka Hansen and Nicole Churnock, junior Tami Weston, and sophomore Jessica Ziegler all earned honorable mention nods. Six Games Against NCAA Tournament Teams Highlights 2008 UCSB Women's Soccer Slate

Huggins, UCSB Beat No. 26 Long Beach State, 5-3

The old baseball saying, "If you're going to win one game of a three-game series, make it the last one," rang true for UC Santa Barbara in Sunday's series finale at Blair Field, as a gutsy effort from senior southpaw Chuck Huggins helped the Gauchos beat No. 26 Long Beach State, 5-3. UCSB jumped out to an early lead, as Huggins (8-2) earned his eighth win of the year pitching 7.2 innings, while striking out four and walking only two. FULL STORY
